Joseph,

Are you in vegas.... or did you order red over the phone?

I called at 9:25 am and left a message, but I haven't heard back.

Thanks

Ahhhh

I'm happy for you, Joseph.

I wonder why I didn't get a call back?

Do you know your reservation #?

Do you know your reservation #?

Everyone who pre-orders should put their queue number in their forum name...

"John Smith - Red #23"

Did you say you where a VIP from a movie studio?

j/k

All I did was leave a name and number.

I was #50 something. I don't recall the exact number now.

I tried to order but got the same mail message---Someone said earlier this afternoon that they already had 100 preorders----

I really would like to know how many pre orders they'll have after NAB in total. I really hope for them it's much.

Damn, I can't wait...
(I haven't placed an order, I don't have the money, but when I will... I'll buy me a RED :-D or rent one in the meanwhile)

LOL.... Sure I did ..... CEO baby, Sunpath Productions.

I'm the CEO, the President, head of development ..... and the janitor.

The pay sucks...... but the benefits are great.

Now, if I could just get a call back.....

#50..... something, That's Great!

I think before the days done they'll be hundreds.

Just incase there are other people waiting to hear back from Red.....

I received my call back from a very nice guy named Chris.

Chris said I was the 2nd person to leave a message this morning at approximately 9:30 am ..... and the 2nd person in line to be called back.

We spoke at 4:30..... That's how busy they were.

And drum roll please......... I'm #81.

He also said "the phone never stopped ringing all day".

So, if you left your message latter in the day, it might take some time to hear from them.

This is all very interesting, and moving very fast. But i wonder how much it will cost with the lens, record system, warranty, batteries and other accessories...Probably over $40,000. Remember, the VariCam goes for around $55,000 BEFORE you add lens, etc.

Hi Heath,

There will be lenses available of 5k or less (if they have a P+L mount). Well, RED is coming with a 5k 300mm lens. They also said to have a recording device of 1k. So I can't imagine you could record much 2k or 4k with it, but with 720p or 1080p you should get resonable lengths of footage...

Okay, so the camera is $17,500; the lens is $5,000; and the recording device is $1,000. Is that right, Mathieu? They've updated the www.red.com site with more stuff including another cage.

What comes stock with the camera? How many batteries, etc.? I know it's a little too early, but they're taking reservations.

I haven't been this excited about new technology (RED, Silicone Imaging, Color Space Inc.) since 2003 when JVC announced the world's first, affordable HD camera.

Well gentlemen, I just put my deposit down and this is the first time in my entire career (since 1982) that I have bought a camera sight unseen. Hey, what can I say, I'm getting old and figure why not take a chance. Until then, I'm shooting my next documentary with the Sony HDXCAM. I"m renting it!

I don't see any down side to the reservation. It is refundable at any time. And supply may be short at first.

I put my deposit down yesterday, seemed like there was nothing to lose. If they do pull this camera off, there's going to be one hell of a wait for it. I'd rather be one of the first, than have to wait half a year to get it. Also, I felt better about getting a serial number from the camera manufacturer, as opposed to the retailer/waiting fiasco with the HVX. If you signed up with a large retailer, chances are that a smaller company would get their cameras first. 4th quarter '05 my ass.

This way, with Red, the 96th camera made for sale, is mine.

Can we get Jim to come in and talk about the video cameras he's owned? I'm guessing F900 and Varicam, Z1 and HVX200, XL1 and VX1000 are all part of the big list!

Deal should be "Buy two RED ONE's and get a one day guided tour of Jim's camera museum"
