Does it record to a hard drive?

for 20k it sounds great but do you need a whole bunch of extra expensive stuff to archive and post it?

There has to be catch.

I know the viper needs a special portable system to make the footage useful does this need the same thing.

I love the camera so I'm not dissing it, I just am trying to figure out the catch. Or could they really have caught sony and panny off gurad that much?

There will be many options to record too, but most of them are hard drives. You can all look it up on internet, at HDforindies.com, and other sites.
Is it expensive to archive?
I think archiving 2k and 4k is expensive, hell ya.

But with RED, you can shoot 720p and 1080p (downconverted, so it should look much better then normal HD!) now, which is normal and not a huge task, and archive that, and within a couple of years, when computers and hard drives again get cheaper and faster, you can put your RED resolution meter (or whatever it will be) at 2k or 4k and begin to shoot at those resolutions... you won't have to buy a new camera, you can use the same camera as before...
