View Full Version : Thank you, Jim Jannard
Mathieu Ghekiere April 24th, 2006, 08:46 PM Someone one DVXUser was still sceptical, even now, and someone else reacted by saying: I think Jim Jannard deserves just a big thank you from all of us.
So that made me think about opening a simple thread: Thank you, Jim Jannard, and everybody involved in RED for having the courage and passion to do this.
When I can afford your camera (which isn't now, but anyhow) I will be one of the first in line to order one.
Thank you!
George Ellis April 24th, 2006, 09:12 PM I agree. I have not been so excited by a camera I cannot afford (NOT a complaint), ever. I still think it is too cool for words.
Dean Harrington April 24th, 2006, 09:12 PM I'm excited about the new camera and the concept as well. thanks Jim!
Pat Sherman April 24th, 2006, 11:23 PM I think for great thing about RED is that if it comes to fruition. That Sony, Panny, etc..etc. Won't be long to follow and in several years, we'll be posting, "FS: 4K camera low hours" and "Anyone see that new 12K camera"
If Red works out and hits the market with it's promises at $17K the other guys will have to answer..:)

I say, put it out there for $8,000, and make the others work to keep up. At that price, only the little cheapie one chippers will sell. Everybody with some real cash will buy Red.
Joseph Aurili April 25th, 2006, 09:04 AM I bet if the price was reduced to $8000 it would sell 10x better.
Benny Ek April 25th, 2006, 12:46 PM Jim This has been said over and over, but wow!. I have been following this project with baited breath and I am impressed with the outcome so far. Being in Video Production over the past 12 years this is by far one of the most exciting developments I have seen. There has been such a huge gap that really needed to be filled. I believe this is that gap filler. Well done. Thinking and acting outside the mold is what makes truely great products.
Paul Brand April 25th, 2006, 01:05 PM I, for one, like the idea that a "new" company has the ambition to develop a camera that does more than any of the "big" players have attempted. And at a price that just might shake things up a bit.
I like the modular idea. Non-proprietary interfaces give everyone a lot of options. (No REDCamProHD ultra-chartreuse-laser card special media required!)
I really like seeing an American company actually produce something innovative and "in front of the curve". Let's not let the nay-sayers squash something that has the potential to change our world for the better. Stop whining unless you can offer something better. At least these guys are doing something. And that something looks amazing so far.
Vive RED! Let the competition begin!

Yeah. but that would be a true revolution as it would close sony, panasonic, canons doors in the market...mafia wouldnt let it happen. :-)

Maybe, but I'd hazard to guess that cost of goods on the camera head alone are solidly over that figure. (especially at non general-consumer production run sizes and that's not even including R&D costs! )
I think the LEAST we can do to show our thanks would be to pay a unit price that provides Mr Jannard with a respectable profit margin once the camera is shipping. :)

dont think hes to concerned about this as he said he would build it for himself if anyone didnt buy it...the fact that people buy it makes it cheaper for him to produce his dream camera...plus hes sharing with the community.
kudos Jim...looks cool
