Has anyone mentioned that RED One will have an upgradeable sensor? It was in the NAB presentation but I haven't seen anyone post about it yet. It would have to be a factory re-fit option, wouldn't it, or I wonder if it's an end-user plug & play kind of thing.

Call RED up... "I want an upgrade"... you get a pre-paid UPS box in the mail and you send your unit in, get it back a few days later. That'd be nice. Get a "core charge" discount for the old sensor.

That's one of the selling points... was the fact if a newer sensor comes out you could upgrade...

But they didn't say how much...

My guess is you'd pay for price of the sensor... putting it in and any software updates to make the new sensor work as well...

The only questions that I have... after thinking about it for a moment... let's say in three years you could upgrade to a 8k sensor... wouldn't some of the hardware in the camera wouldn't that have to be improved as well...

But again... for example... lets say body and the recording hard drive are $22,500 now... and if you need an update in five years... and if it cost you only $11,250 for the newest Red... you're paying half the price for a new Red... not bad...

I've talked to Frederic (of the RED team) and he confirmed this. It will definitely
be factory upgradable but not user. This makes sense since for shipping
reasons and the need to have the sensor perfectly aligned.

And in all honesty I don't know why I started this as a *new* thread when we had this one all along:

Thanks for listening, Team RED!
