View Full Version : So when do we get some footage? Jim OQuinn April 27th, 2006, 09:16 AM A simple question really: when can we expect to see some footage? Jim Jannard April 27th, 2006, 10:52 AM Again... 4k footage in the fall. Jim OQuinn April 27th, 2006, 11:01 AM Again... 4k footage in the fall. Excellent. I do believe I'll ignore all rumors and speculation along with refraining from comment until then! See 'ya when the leaves turn brown. Andreas Fernbrant April 27th, 2006, 02:00 PM Will a huge risk as to beeing a complete idiot, I have to ask the question. (Jim, I'm guessing you have a hard time with a forum full of people twisting and turning every single word you write) 4K - Your first footage or perhaps lower resolutins first... earlier on? Jim, any idea to what you are going to shoot and show as the first images? Kind regards, Andreas Jim Jannard April 27th, 2006, 02:17 PM We have footage now from test (slice) sensor prototypes, which is why confidence is high. We are NOT going to show ANY footage until we can present 4k footage that blows people away. I don't want to have to hear anything that requires an excuse or explanation. Our plan is to show several types of content. Sports, music and full feature-like. Hope that helps. Jim Luis Caffesse April 27th, 2006, 02:31 PM I don't want to have to hear anything that requires an excuse or explanation. I love hearing that. Nothing sucks the energy out of the room faster than a disclaimer. Best foot forward! Here's hoping you blow us all away. We have footage now from test (slice) sensor prototypes, which is why confidence is high. Can someone tell me what a 'slice' sensor means? I keep seeing mention of the test (slice) sensor prototypes... just curious. Thanks Andreas Fernbrant April 27th, 2006, 02:57 PM That's just what I wanted to hear! All I can say right now is that I find the decisions from RED to my liking. RED has my respect, Although, If I may come with a suggestion - it would be to invest money on a higher quality web site. The new one is OK but it's just something about it.. The quality of the camera and the web site don't match. Perhaps a less then top-notch web site will reflect peoples quality feelings about the cam? (I know it could and have happend) To hire some web gurus/marketing guru to handle the web site. I'm quite sure it will pay for itself giving even more credibility to RED. Just a careing thought to help RED, nothing more... Kind regards, Andreas Alan Galbraith April 27th, 2006, 04:11 PM Jim, contact me if you feel like it.... I'm involved in several forms of motorsport that can serve up some spectacular footage. I know yer involved in drag racing, but lets talk about getting that camera trackside at some MotoGP/AMA/AFM motorcycle races, out on the salt at Bonneville, or on the 18th Fairway at Pebble Beach during the Concours. agalbraith@vintageracingnews.com John Swystun May 4th, 2006, 06:39 AM Seems funny to see people write that they don't think this thing would fit in on a reel movie set. Maybe the later versions would, but the red one looks like it's designed for sports filming. I mean the cages, come on! I am currently training for the industry, and it gives me great satisfaction to see that someone (Jim) with such an intimate understanding of it would find in economically viable to realease such a product. Anyways, I am a snowboard cinematographer and would be happy to volunteer my services in testing the cameras out in a winter environment! Check some stuff out on Myspace.com/johnswystun. New teaser for our 06 vid coming soon! Clayton Harper May 4th, 2006, 11:02 AM Dear Reds, Could we get a countdown to the footage demonstration on the homepage at red.com? My obsessive compulsive disorder is acting up somethin' fierce. -C Alex Nikishin May 6th, 2006, 10:33 PM I believe what Jim is referring to when saying "slice" sensor is the 4K sensor working at 2K resloution. Graeme Nattress May 7th, 2006, 10:20 AM A slice is a small area of the sensor, but built to the specifications of the full sensor. Therefore, as you only get a smaller area, you get a smaller resolution, but that means that in other terms, such as dynamic range and noise, it should perform the same as the big sensor. Graeme |
