View Full Version : RED is now Black! Eirik Tyrihjel April 27th, 2006, 07:26 PM Just got an email from red, with an attached image of the RED camera in black! If it didnīt look good before, now it does! And in black itīs so much more practical on set. Jim Jannard April 27th, 2006, 07:46 PM It never was going to be silver... that was just the prototype art so it was easier to see detail. Black is the color. Jim Andreas Fernbrant April 27th, 2006, 09:04 PM Are the pictures for the public? If so, where can I find one? Dave C. Preston April 27th, 2006, 09:19 PM It never was going to be silver... that was just the prototype art so it was easier to see detail. Black is the color. Jim Didn't everyone know?... RED is the new black. ;) Jim Jannard April 27th, 2006, 09:25 PM The new pics (renderings actually) will be posted on our website in a few days... Jim Chris Hurd April 27th, 2006, 09:33 PM Here ya go, courtesy of RED (thanks for the email Jim!) At the airport -- headed home. Dave C. Preston April 27th, 2006, 09:48 PM Here ya go, courtesy of RED (thanks for the email Jim!) At the airport -- headed home. Cool bit of quick Photoshoppery...personally, I'd keep the "RED" on the side of the body in the color red. Not bad tho'. ;) Joseph Aurili April 27th, 2006, 09:54 PM How about some wood siding? j/k Looks good in black. Is that a big red light up front or is it something else? If so it might splash into close-ups. Or is that the red "button" you get when reserving the camera? Dave C. Preston April 27th, 2006, 09:59 PM How about some wood siding? j/k Looks good in black. Is that a big red light up front or is it something else? If so it might splash into close-ups. Or is that the red "button" you get when reserving the camera? I agree. I'd lose the front red button. Could reflect or cast back onto close-ups. Chris Barcellos April 27th, 2006, 10:11 PM I wasn't around when this thing was being developed. With that cage around it, it looks a bit like a Coleman 1000 watt generator. So what is the theory with that ?? Craig Chartier April 28th, 2006, 12:26 AM the cage is actually a mounting platform for items like say a viewfinder. I think black (while better than silver) is still a bad color for anything that will be processing that much info. I actually liked the gray powdercoated version they had under glass. I actually liked the gray powdercoated version they had under glass. dude I totally dug the silver one...i have been holding off on a reservation to watch the development process a bit more. Perhaps silver will still come out. peace dalen Nate Weaver April 28th, 2006, 02:45 AM the cage is actually a mounting platform for items like say a viewfinder. I think black (while better than silver) is still a bad color for anything that will be processing that much info. I actually liked the gray powdercoated version they had under glass. Twasn't powdercoated, I don't think. My money is that they grey ones were resin rapid prototypes, hence the funky bumped finish on them. Frank Hool April 28th, 2006, 07:26 AM Here ya go, courtesy of RED (thanks for the email Jim!) At the airport -- headed home. i can't see the attachment :(. Andreas Fernbrant April 28th, 2006, 07:42 AM I have to say that I like the grey one too. The ones pointing out the red button infront might reflect into talents eyes and other surfaces..... actually have a good pint! Keith Wakeham April 28th, 2006, 08:39 AM Looks tough black, more meanacing - I like it. Good work, and like said before less obtrusive on set is better because it's less distracting and less potential to get light reflected into someones eyes Jim Exton April 28th, 2006, 09:15 AM The ones pointing out the red button infront might reflect into talents eyes and other surfaces..... actually have a good pint! "Who has the gaffer's tape?" Andreas Fernbrant April 28th, 2006, 09:20 AM Yeah, that's seems to be a good solution... Always tape the logo. DOH! why didn't I think of that ;-) Jim Jannard April 28th, 2006, 10:00 AM OK... let me help you here. There will be no lit RED logo on the front of the camera. Jim Stephen C. Webb April 28th, 2006, 10:27 AM OK... let me help you here. There will be no lit RED logo on the front of the camera. Oh go on, it looks cool! It could turn off when the camera is running. Tim Le April 28th, 2006, 10:41 AM I think the black anodize looks cool. Jim, one suggestion: use paint-filled machined engraving instead of silkscreening for the button/switch lettering. Nothing reminds me of movie-making equipment more than black hard anodize with engraved lettering. Dalen Johnson April 28th, 2006, 10:54 AM OK... let me help you here. There will be no lit RED logo on the front of the camera. Jim bummer...looks cool. So what will be there? maybe its just a red piece of glass...not lit. (lets hope its not a red piece of plastic) peace dalen Nate Weaver April 28th, 2006, 11:52 AM Funny thing is, I just assumed all along the thing would be black anodized (or painted). Didn't think for a second it'd be anything but. Er, I guess you can't anodize magnesium. So a painted body, maybe the cages will be anodized. Robert Jackson May 21st, 2006, 12:25 PM I was shooting some b-roll today on 16mm and the camera body was getting fairly hot in the morning sun. It made me start thinking about those old NASA Mitchells with their white paint jobs. Wouldn't it be cool if you could get the RED One in white as well as black? It seems like it would really help keep the heat down while shooting outdoors. It would look pretty groovy, too. ;-) Chris Hurd May 21st, 2006, 12:35 PM I was halfway hoping for a blood-red body. But of course black is more professional, right? Robert Jackson May 21st, 2006, 12:38 PM I was halfway hoping for a blood-red body. But of course black is more professional, right? Maybe they could offer several colors. That would be cool. A black one as standard and then for an extra charge white, yellow, red, blue...you know, to make a fashion statement. Heh...of course, nothing's as cool as my 16mm rig with the big US BORAX corporate logo on the side. ;-) Jaser Stockert May 21st, 2006, 01:18 PM Maybe they could offer several colors. The final body will be coated and painted magnesium. Shiny silver was never an option. It certainly is possible that we will offer more than one color in the final body... but black is one of the most likely options. The color is the EASIEST aspect of this project do deal with. There are plenty of other more pressing problems to solve along the way. We do, however, hold the final "look" of the camera as an important part of the project. Every aspect matters. I'm not sure how much of an issue heat is in something like the Red One. With film it's obviously an issue. For those of us who do a lot of shooting in the Great Outdoors a white camera might be a really nice option. -Rob Andreas Fernbrant May 21st, 2006, 04:02 PM I would like to wish a color! (if there would be several) I wish for: matte gray like the proto! That was sooo hot! |
