Will a 2GB SD card fit in an Optura 50?

Does anyone know if a 2GB SD card will fit in a Optura 50? There is nothing in the manual about max size and when I contacted Canon they just said that it had been tested to fit a 512MB, but they didn't confirm one way or the other if a 2GB card would fit. I appreciate that not all 2GB cards have exactly the same dimensions, but I'm just wondering if there is a chance one will fit or if I'm looking way beyond what is possible.

kind regards,
Steve

There are several different memory card formats. In the SD (Secure Digital) family of flash memory cards, there's SD, MiniSD and MicroSD. The Optura 50 takes the full-size SD card. Usually the other two types of cards (MiniSD and MicroSD) come with a little adapter so that they'll fit in the larger full-size SD slot. Hope this helps,

Yes, the Optura 50 uses the full sized SD cards but do you know if a 2GB SD card will fit. My understanding is that the 2GB card is thicker than the 16MB that came with the camera.

Steve, my apologies to you for misunderstanding your question. I looked closely at my SanDisk Ultra II 2.0GB SD card and the 16MB card that came with my Optura and sure enough you are right... the 2GB is a thicker card. I never noticed that before, so I guess I learned something today.

Anyway I don't have an Optura 50 but I do have an Optura 500 here and yes the thicker 2GB card fits in the SD card slot just fine. The Optura 50 should be no different. It should fit. Hope this helps,

Chris,

No need to apologize, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I picked up an "el cheapo" Lexar 2GB SD card and though it is a snugger fit than the original Canon 16MB it still slides in and out easily. By my measurements the 16MB Canon card is ~ 1.4mm thick and the 2GB Lexar card is ~ 2.1mm thick.

Thanks for your help,
Steve
