Tracing AviSynth .avs execution?

Is there a way to debug/trace an AviSynth .avs or .avsi file as its executing? I have a script being used to create an MPEG2 image for DVD NTSC creation.

I come from a programming background, so I was hoping something would be available to help me debug a complex .avsi script. I've read the wiki and have been searching all afternoon, but without luck...

I'm using AviSynth 2.5.7 and have VirtualDub 1.7.8 installed as well.

Any suggestions as to how to display or write out statement with values from the script, like input variable values (numeric), or flags to check control flow?

Thanks!
