720p for 1080i50 broadcast

A client has requested that I'll deliver a shoot in hd of some sort, hdv is ok for them. I'll be shooting with a Z1 and/or a EX1. I'm planning on using the EX1 because of it's slow motion capabilities as this is a action sports shoot.

Seeing new to producing HD for clients i ran into the following; they will accept either HDV 1080i50 tape or file formats that are 1080i50. Overcranking that will be usefull from the Ex1 will be at 720p, not 1080i. Anyone got experience shooting 720p for 1080i delivery? I'm doing a rough cut on my Avid and they will be editing on avids to. Or should we just go with 1080i50 to be on the safe side and do slow motion in post?

Delivering in SD is a possibility but the preferred HD for future proofing, SD is kind of a last emergency exit...
