Video clips won't drop onto timeline

When I'm adding material to a sequence with 2 AV tracks, a couple of audio tracks and a title track I meet a problem with dragging a video clip to the timeline after about 3 - 4 minutes worth of material is showing on the time line.
What happens is the video clip will not drop anywhere except at the far end of the sequence into empty space on av track 1, then I can move it to where I want it after that.

Anyone know why that might be please?
Thanks
Dave

You need to set your insert/sync and ripple mode correctly.

Depending on the version of Edius, make sure that the 'v' or 'a' letters are activated on the line that you are wanting to add a clip. As well as setting your sync and ripple settings.
