HDC-SD9 + HV20 telephoto

If I want to use 1 single telephoto for these cams (37mm and 43mm thread respectively), am I better off using the 43mm LT-H43 tele and using a 37-43 step-up with the SD9. Or should I use the 37mm VW-T3714H tele using a 43 to 37mm step down with the HV20 ?
With a wide angle its a no brainer i.e. step up is all that works.. With a tele, step downs do indeed work quite well as the useful range is usually only a part of the actual zoom i.e. 6x to 10x for the HV20 for example...
I dont have access to either so I wanted to check on this..
Cheers!
