New "demo" camera

A local electronics store has 1 panasonic GS400 left over. It is the display camera that has been out on display since October of 2005. They're asking $899 for it. I asked if they would come down on that price and the guy said it originally hit the shelves at $1400, so they wouldn't come down anymore than $899.

I wonder how much use a floor model gets in this price range?

Tape hours are probably close to zero but you have to check absolutely everything, it might have been dropped or otherwise abused. Might be a good idea to shoot a test footage to make sure it's still focusing right, zoom works without hickups, audio is clean.

$899 seems steep

Thanks, I'll do that.

They're going for less on ebay with extras. Maybe the store will come down, but it'll take some wheelin' and dealin' for that and that's tough outside of pawn shops. No way I'm paying $900 for it and it's not truly NIB.
