The Cooke RED Set
I did a quick search here and I am surprised to see no one has made a link for this:

This link may get pulled as it may be against dvinfo policy if the lens kit is available direct from your linked web address but also from a reseller sponsor member which I think it is. If you want to be courteous and sure, drop Chris Hurd an email. This may be the reason why it may not been linked previously by other members.

Thanks Bob -- it's okay as it is though.
The set is also available in the U.S. through our sponsor ZGC at www.zgc.com Thanks for posting the link Thomas,

Next time I will check with you. I figured a direct link to a manufacturer would be ok, but not a reseller.

This is good to know! Thanks!
As far as the lenses, this /i technology is new to me. I thought it may have something to do with focus assisting, but recording the metadata is a great idea, especially matching live action with keyed in video. May the discussion begin! |

Hey, this set looks really cool! What's so special about the red set over the regular S4 primes? Also, how do they compare with the zeiss ultra primes?

I have yet to discern what is different about the Red S4's over the standard ones, it seems a bit like a marketing ploy and it seems unlikely to be a success. The regular S4's can be rented to any production shooting 35mm, Super16, D20, Red etc. But if you own the RED version, it's a little extra explaining to do when used on other cameras (have to deflect questions of "is this a cheaper series? what's different about them? are they compatible?" etc).
I suppose someone who never intends to use them off the RED camera will be perfectly happy, but I don't know what percentage of RED purchasers are sinking another $100K (to start) into their private lens collections. |

i don't think the lenses are different. i think you save something like $1500 on the set versus purchasing them separately...which, woo hoo, when you're spending $96K+ on a purchase isn't huge, but it's better than nothing.
assuming you want exactly those lenses... |

That 15-40mm T/2 sounds pretty yummy I must say.

I myself prefer the Optimo 15-40; it's a bit slower at T2.6 but much lighter and lower profile, would match the weight of RED far better for handheld work.
