I think this will be the camera that I am waiting for.

Something like a Nikon D200 only for video. Handheld / shoulder mounted high quality all-metal run and gun camera with an affordable price.

I am only afraid of the waiting lines for this one.

I also think this camera is going to change the industry forever. If they can pull off the above, I think they have the whole industry watching and crying.

Bring on monday.

Yes. And seeing you've had a bit of fun speculating about Scarlet, here are my predictions on RED's Monday announcements (just feel like having a bit of fun too):

1/ Scarlet specifications announced (hopefully at least 2K).
2/ RED 4K projector specifications announced (at an affordable price, hopefully).
3/ Apple (through the RED booth) announcing new "full 4K RED workflow" on Final Cut Studio and the release of a new super multi-core Mac Pro to edit 4K.

And a "minor", but extremely important announcement: Build 16 released and no more unacceptable noise in the blue channel.

And my final prediction - about this forum:
The traffic on Scarlet will become so great (just look at that Scarlet Speculation thread - 266 replies and almost 45,000 views before Chris locked it) that it will obscure the traffic on the RED One and Chris will probably have to set up a sub-forum, just for Scarlet. (And perhaps a sub-forum for RED One, with both under the banner of RED Digital Cinema.)

Okay, I'll put my crystal ball away now.

No, I have a D200 and see no reason for updating to the D300. But both are mighty fine cameras so at the end all is well to me.

New Article on RED Announcements

Hey guys, second article covering the RED. I've tried to address the pros and cons of the announcements, and to see this in perspective.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/RED-S...ce-83363.shtml

And I've added a download link for the RED brochure, in case anyone still can't get it off their site.

P.S: $3K for the SCARLET? Crazy.

"But why not bring support for 5K as well? The EPIC and the RAY should come out at the same time, so why not end the projection problems in one fell swoop? There might be upgrades, but from a public perception stand-point, this reduces the value of the 5K resolution. "

"Giving SCARLET focus, zoom and iris rings (which do not appear in the photos) or a faster lens, say – a f/1.8 or f/1.5 would give it significantly more professional value for digital cinema and therefore make it more competitive with the RED ONE itself. This is not likely to be within the company’s plans."

"With the EPIC rumored to cost between $30,000 and $40,000 for the body only, some extreme programming has to have gone into this camera to justify the price. So perhaps the real upgrade here will be in the sensor’s processing – the way it handles highlights (notoriously problematic in digital cinema) and color and motion. "

True, if they offered a fast lens f1.4 - f1.9 range, this would of probably ticked off some current RED ONE users. Afterall it shoots 3K images with a 2/3" sensor.

I'm still really wondering what the overall cost will be to get this rig useable.

I'm betting between 4.500 and 10k depending on what you want to use with it, the most expensive things being a 35mm adaptor and lens, and the hardware required to capture direct to disk.

As it stands right now, the one required item is a deck to record audio (and the microphones, of course. but most people will already have those).

I'm sure they will add support.

I don't see a projector?

As far as I can tell, "Red Ray" is a media player, like a DVD player, with outputs being HD-SDI or similar. Is there any evidence that it's an optical projector?

Not a projector, I don´t know much - but it uses standard DVD´s to burn and play from, up to 2 hrs of 4k using REDs magical codecs.

It also plays 4k from Flash cards it seems.
