here's one thing I didn't know about Red...

HD Technology Update: What lens did you use?
Rick Shaw: We used the standard Cooke lens that comes with the RED ONE camera.

Meaning, the lens provided by that particular camera's owner, which is clearly identified as a separate entity from the subject of the interview in this article. What he's saying is that the lens and the camera came from the same source. It shouldn't be misinterpreted as RED somehow bundling a lens with the camera, because that's obviously not the way it works.

Yeah that is a bit misleading. The camera is sold as literally just a body. And the standard RED lens is 'manufacturer unknown.' Though the consensus seems to be that it's a rehoused Sigma 35mm still lens. Though I have heard the occasional rumbling that Cooke might have been involved as well. Still that's not to say that's what the author meant I'll wager...

This article has the 18-50 RED zoom coming from Cooke, the UK manufacturer is currently unknown and the lens appears to be a rehoused Sigma, perhaps with a couple of extra elements.

The boot up times sound about right, the Build 15 RED I was working with on a Steadicam job last week took over a minute. However, long boot up times could be an issue on the Scarlet for people hoping to shoot fast moving documentaries, but I'll assume RED will be addressing this during development. I gather with build 16 you get a preview mode during the boot up, but you still can't start shooting until it's complete.
