Focus ring is in front. Zoom and Iris rings in the back.

Oh the anticipation is killing me!

I've found another couple of gems from Jim J.:

* 120 fps (180 fps 5 sec. burst)
* actual measured resolution of Scarlet will be 2.1K (72% of 3K)

Sweet.

I've doubts about having the zoom control being at the rear of the camera. Ergonomics appear to be a RED weakness and this appears to be suspect until they illustrate their hand holding accessories that show you can operate the zoom control in this location with ease.

Jim posted this picture on the Scarletuser forums.

He said the scale is not exact, but it's close. And the Height of the Scarlet is about 5.8" tall.

Anyone else wondering what Scarlet is going to do to the prosumer market? I can't see Sony and Canon justifying some of their prices if Scarlet does hit it's 3K price.

Could be best to wait and see what the Scarlet prices out as a shooting camera rig. A RED ONE costs a lot more than the base $17,500 and the Scarlet may require some additional accessories.

The other manufacturers have dealerships and an international distribution chain to factor into their costs. If you can only buy a Scarlet directly from RED (like the RED ONE) those costs don't have to be factored in. How comfortable many potential customers will be with that arrangement remains to be seen, certainly many won't find that a problem, but it could be outside the comfort zone of others.

depends on were you use it for, only judging by the images this is no run and gun camera, if you attach the necessary option to this cam to make it somewhat flexible the costs will have doubled easily. Just look at what an additional viewfinder costs (allmost the price of a "prosumer" camera) or a lcd screen. I don't think Canon and Sony will have to panic.

I'm a bit confused now. So the RED Scarlet will shoot in 2.1K, and not 3K? So, technically (not rounding), its 2.1K for under 3K?

Sorry for the confusion.

Scarlet will have 3k resolution on the sensor and will record 3k worth of pixels. However, the actual pictures will be a bit softer than that. According to Jim Jannard, the effective resolution will be 2.1k. In other words, the details will be as sharp as can be delivered by a "perfect" 2.1k camera. (Disclaimer: no camera is perfect, and there will be other imperfections, such as optical limitations, as well.)

This isn't surprising. RED ONE is a 4k camera, but it's effective resolution is closer to 3+k, as I recall.

What this means is that Scarlet's output will be absolutely great for 2k film and 1080p TV. (Assuming that the lens was right for the application, and the scene was shot well in the first place.) Since few people have 3k or 4k displays, and the mass market is moving to 1080p, they hit the center of the bull's eye with 2.1k resolution for this product.

Will the lens have image stabilization?
