Using Lens Hand Controls remotely

I have a JVC 250 with the Fujinon 13X lens that uses 8 pin remote. I was looking on the shelf the other day and noticed I have an older Fujinon hand grip removed from another lens. Same 8-pin control.

Is there a way to utilize this controllers zoom and trigger function to control the camera's lens remotely? I thought perhaps I could modify it and add a cable for a home made remote rather than paying 2-3 hundred.

Yes -- a standard 8-pin cable specifically wired for Fuji lenses should work just fine.
