macbook pro to JVC TM-A101GU or JVC TM-A13SU

Hi!

I have had it with trying to color correct for TVs without having a calibrated monitor. I don't have enough money for the good stuff (just a student), but I am at the point where I am so frustrated that I feel like throwing in the towel. I can't seem to find anything at the price point I can afford.

So now that I found monitors that I think could work (JVC TM-A101GU or JVC TM-A13SU), I find that I have no way to connect to them since I have a mac book pro. After research, I think that I could hook up to these monitors through DVI -> Matrox MXO -> composite cable -> Monitor.

Unfortunately the Matrox MXO is about 1,500 dollars out of my price range and I can't go out and buy myself a Mac Pro and a Blackmagic card right now.

Any ideas?

Doesn't your camera have composite out? Thats what I use with my Mac Book Pro

The TM-A101GU is a nice little monitor. I have one too. You can try the Apple to video adapter (I think $20) for your DVI port. Then get an RCA to BNC to your A/B TM-A101GU input. In Sony Vegas, there's a displaymode/color management/sRGB configuration in the preview monitor settings. I could check the FCP settings but I don't have one closeby at the moment.

Use a DV device like a camera and use that for previewing.

Hook it up to an external monitor, preferably a broadcast monitor. Consumer stuff will likely have wacky colors, but it should hopefully give you an idea about overscan, framing, whether or not the field order is reversed.

For your budget that would be the most accurate and would be what I would do.

I shoot with the now defunct Andromeda system - would that effect how I use the camera composite out since I'm not editing minidv which is what the camera technically is?

My timeline in fcp is a prores 422 hq timeline, if that matters.
