Re: Custom power cables

Stephen,

A few thoughts. First of all, I'm pretty sure you've got the gender wrong on that. Your Frezzi light should have a Male Power Tap connector on it - it should have two pins, not two...

Re: Sony HVR M15 image problems

Funny, I just happen to have used one of these decks at my old job, and I think I know the problem you're having. Check page 51 of the manual - I bet you've got the iLink downconversion turned on.

Re: Great Steadicam shot in a movie

Well, I'd say that's a great collection of shots! I think my final count was 6 shots. The first shot was certainly done on some kind of crane (guessing a Technocrane), as was the second-to-last, and...

Re: Steadicam Merlin Vest - Missing Bolt top chest

Nope - not a metric bolt. Everything on a Steadicam rig will be SAE (Imperial), since they're made in the US. I believe that bolt could be a 6-32, which would measure out to 3.50mm in diameter, if...

Re: Measuring drop times.

I think the important thing is to not get caught up in numbers. I know for a while I was obsessed with getting a 2.5 second drop time. Every time I set up my rig, I would try to get it to to that...

Re: Vinten Forests Sprout at Olympics

I think people may be reading a bit too much into seeing so many Vintens on the Olympics. True, I've only seen one non-Vinten head (a Cartoni), but it makes sense. I've been doing some broadcast work...

KATA RC-11 Raincover (for small shoulder cams)

I used this rain cover with my Panasonic DVC-60, but it was meant for the Canon XL1 and XL2 cameras. It worked quite well, and I'd imagine would work well on any other camera with that form factor...

Re: Crane for DSLR use with motorized head... any experiences?

I used a Camera Turret head a while back, which wasn't too bad. I felt a little compromised by the fact that there was only one speed control - I'm really used to being able to adjust the tilt and...

Re: steadicam Pilot vs Sachtler Artemis

Buba,

If you're free tomorrow from between 12 and 7 PM, there's a show going on from Cinequip White, the February Freeze. Tiffen's going to be there, showing off Steadicam rigs. Come fly the...

Re: Meaning of 'chiron'

I think you mean "branchaloris", which is a combination of branch and cucoloris, which is more commonly known as a "cookie" - a sheet of wood or foam core with cutouts, used to cast patterns of...

Re: Steadicam Zephyr-upgrade changes

Chris,

I'd be interested to know what exactly was wrong with your Zephyr. You said the dovetail was defective?

Also, just FYI, The Steadicam Forum isn't owned or operated by Tiffen. It's owned...

Hey everybody! Since I just purchased a new arm, I'm finally letting go of my tried-and-true Steadicam Merlin arm. I have already sold the vest, so all I have for sale at the moment is the arm, and a...

Sean,

Really great video. Loved everybody saying Steadicam! Reminds me of the workshop I did with Peter, and really makes me eager for when I finally do a week-long one!

I see quite a few problems with how you've got that set up! I'd take a step back and read the manual. First off, the quick release plate is mounted all the way to the front of the top stage (the part...

Steadicam Merlin/Pilot Weights

I've got a pair of Merlin weights that I've got no use for. They'd work on either the Steadicam Merlin, or the Steadicam Pilot, to add weight, and increase inertia. If you've got a Pilot, you...
