Re: Lorinda Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

Searching for more of these cameras, this thread popped up (had forgotten about it). These little Magnavoxes are still great, 15 years(!) after this thread was started. I now have a few of them...

Re: What is this noise and how to remove it?

I used the AI-based process at audostudio.com for some problem tracks recently and it was pretty astonishingly good. You can process up to 20 minutes free as a sample. Very few settings but quite...

Re: Capturing legacy 60i SD footage with correct cadence

Interesting, Ron. Looks like Windows only though, yes?

Re: Capturing legacy 60i SD footage with correct cadence

Oh nice, thank you Andrew! It was a challenging day, lots to get through, can't remember too much cracking up between takes from my perspective at least! Continuity from studio to control room, plus...

Re: Capturing legacy 60i SD footage with correct cadence

Christopher Young, good suggestion and I will put up a test clip when I get the chance.

Bruce Watson, good point. The reason I haven't looked that route is because a few years back I directed a...

Re: Capturing legacy 60i SD footage with correct cadence

And here is the second part of my quest: I'd like to capture real time into H264. I'm using an Atomos Samurai Blade for my initial captures, which was their last generation that did standard def, but...

Capturing legacy 60i SD footage with correct cadence

Hi everyone! Been ages since I've posted here. Hope all are surviving the Bad Times one way or another.

I have been keeping myself busy with archiving, digitizing and organizing all types of my...

Back to the first page!

I know you guys have longed moved off the original question asked in this thread, but just to be frisky I'm bringing it back!

I used a four point star filter on a commercial this week, along with...

re: Would using a star filter for cinematography be too weird?

Flextrack is quite smooth and avoids bumps at joins, but it is impossible to make a mathematically perfect curve, so the camera travelling on it will experience a certain amount of wandering back and...

re: Would using a star filter for cinematography be too weird?

Looking this up on the pCam app, assuming an S35 sensor, on a 75mm you can track back from a closeup to a wide head to toe (approx. 8 feet to 36 feet) and not see tracks, since they start 8 feet away...

re: Would using a star filter for cinematography be too weird?

The Breaking Bad shot is definitely not Steadicam. I would guess Technocrane.

To back up to the clarification you made a page ago:

There are many ways to do this. Some are expensive, some...

re: Would using a star filter for cinematography be too weird?

Thanks for the vote of confidence fellas! Unfortunately I can't take the time to pore through 247 posts (it seems to have veered quickly away from star filters!), if Ryan or someone can concisely sum...

Re: Mini DV question! ...

Maybe the DSR-11, which was a half rack size deck? I still have mine and it's going strong.

A few years ago I made the decision to back up my old analog tapes (VHS, SVHS, 8mm, Hi8, 3/4, Beta) to...

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

I think you've answered your own question here. Building shots around the location is frankly the most logical thing to do (I find it much easier to build a shot list based on a real location than on...

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

I wouldn't be offended if a director had everything shotlisted or boarded!

Part of the joy of this business is collaboration, so if you are ready to entertain other ideas, it may be very...

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

Thanks Josh...but I would also clarify that I have done many small productions over the years too. I get the sense that there is some thinking that we working in the rarified air of "the industry"...

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

It sounds like you are very particular with the shots you want to get!

If storyboards help you communicate best with your crew, then by all means use them. Often the last few degrees of...

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

I would say, clearly not that experienced. But it is still surprising to me that there are so many that seem to think that staging and blocking is not part of the director's job.

Re: Am I stepping on the DPs toes by creating my own shot list for them?

As Josh says, different people will work in different ways. That said, the scenario you describe where the director only works with actors and the DP blocks and shot-lists is atypical. That would be...

Re: BBC Blue Peter 60 years old.

Coincidentally, I just came across this picture in an album at my parent's house, me and my siblings (I'm the youngest) meeting Peter Purves at a festival in the UK somewhere around 1971!

Also--I...

Re: ATEM Switcher - Black Magic Capture Device Not Detected

Josh, don't know if you have solved this since posting. The ATEM software doesn't bring video into the computer, it's simply a remote controller for the ATEM switcher box itself. The ethernet cable...

Re: Shooting interview in Northampton, MA

It's a good question!

We shot Beta SP and had the master Filmlooked to 24fps (can't really say 24p as that wasn't a video format yet). I haven't seen it in a master format for many years. I...
