Is the Steady Stick too much for a really small camera?

I mean is there something else that is better for something as small as the Canon HF100? This is the steady stick http://dvcreators.net/steady-stick

In my opinion, no.

I've used it on a DVX100, DVC30 and a consumer Sony cam (TRV-80).

Should be fine. I use it with my FX1, and my HV20.

Remember, this isn't anything more than a camera support stationer filming. With the belt around your waist, connected to solid stick, walking movement will be transmitted to the camera.

It'll probably feel a bit awkward, "little cam, big rig" and all, BUT it's one of the more effective systems for getting a steady shot while relatively stationary, and within reason moving around - I use the QR to release the upright (I added a stretch camera strap so it stays in relative position), leaving the shoulder arm to assist with stability.

If you want something really small you can go with a monopod and a belt pocket or clip of some sort - Sunpak makes one of this sort of design, small, light, and includes a little clip thingy as well as a longer lanyard for around your neck - not a bad setup, and more compact than the SS, maybe not quite as stable, but far better than handheld.

I find my handheld is wobbly and my back goes to jello fairly fast, so a support of some sort is almost a necessity. I've picked up a couple of monopods that fit into a belt socket device I picked up at the hardware store (tool holder!). I've got one micro monopod by Hakuba that is super compact, the belt clip and monopod fit in a small camera pack for on the go - decent setup for when I'd rather not lug the SS.

Hope that gives you some ideas!

I would be very tempted to add some weight - maybe a steel plate between the cam and the stick - it would be a lot more stable
