35mm for XL series at DVinfo.net

Hey guys,

I'm looking into getting one of thiese nifty little adapters and wanted some questions answered. What better place to turn than to my family on dvinfo.net.

first question: Are there any other adapters besides that $430,569.00 (might as well be) P+S that connect directly to the body?

Second Question: What are the lighting, zoom issues with these on an xl lens? That is a lot of glass and length for light to travel down.

Third question: Since I am also a minister, would anyone like to give me a P+S technik adapter and some lenses for a tax right off?

Bryon,
I beleive the P+S mini35 is the only adapter to fit directly to the XL body (maybe Dan's MPIC adapter does to?)

Regarding light loss, my SG35 looses around 1 - 1.5 stops of light, which is hardly noticable.

No, the Mini35 is the very only one.

Sad, but true. The missing link is the relay lens, which would be a custom job, and the lens used by the Mini35 itself, is around $1000 according to my previous research.

You're better off attaching an imager onto the front end of the XL lens. Sure its a lot of glass, but the only real downside is your XL1/XL2/XL-H1 may grow to a monstrous bazooka length (depending on the kind of adapter). So if you're concerned about the length, the MPIC or my U35A (not for sale) are among the shortest imaging gadgets I've seen. Next up in short length, I believe, would be the Letus35, then the G35 and Micro35/M2 have considerable length, but I wouldn't refrain from purchasing the G35 or Micro35/M2 because they'll make your XL1/XL2/XL-H1 into an elephant trunk. Whatever it takes to get the look you're after.

Steve, after getting a good laugh from your mini35 parody, I can't envisage you as a proponent of an XL2 relay lens :-) The elephant trunk is a sensitive marvel of biological engineering!

This is so true, but there are key benefits to gain when shooting sensitive subjects such as wild animals, old folks with absesses, and girls at parties.

Dan can make one. Hell he had a flip in 2004! If you really look...I mean really look through his site, you will see everything you ever imagine equipping your cam with. Its absolutely ridiculous that one man can tinker so much, so effectively.

I am working on the XL1 adapter with relay lens now. Give me a month or 2 and you will see a sleek looking design, thanks.

Problem with the relay is that it must be a quality lens, or it defeats the whole point of having one.
