Upgraded to Letus35FE and disappointed

I just recently sold my Letus35a and bought a used Letus35FE. I wanted to upgrade for the obvious flip capability and to hopefully get a clearer, cleaner image. After shooting with it for a couple days I'm initially disappointed. With my 35a I could barely see the GG and the image was surprisingly sharp. With the FE I can see streaks across the GG and the image just isn't as sharp.

Below is a frame grab that shows some of the streaking on the GG. (it's more apparent when the video is running) It's most obvious in continuous tone areas like a white wall or areas out of focus.

The streaking only shows up when the motor is on. I've carefully cleaned all the glass and GG with q-tips.

As for the sharpness, I'd really like to get a hold of a Canon lens and try that side of the lens mount (right now I'm using a Nikon 50mm lens). I wonder if the distance between the lens and the GG is a bit off.

If anyone has any advice I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

Oh, and just for fun, I posted a clip using the FE of me and my daughters messing around. It's hard to spot the streaking, but the lack of sharpness bugs me. Compare it to the clip "bubbles" which was shot with the 35a, which to me is sharper.

The files are here: http://www.jsendicott.com/dvinfo
FE clip is "Letus35FE"
35a clip is "bubbles"

PS - please download the clips to your desktop and then view with quicktime player. Viewing these clips through IE or Firefox will have the gamma messed up. I guess it's a bug with the h264 encoder.

i had the same problem i post Quyen Le and he guid me how to prevent this .

this happen because the gg is off balance so you need to add a drop of hot glue on one of the legs that connect to the gg post to quyen and he will help you

by the way white wall are the weak point of this adaptor even that i shoot with it white limbo with great result

i watch the clips and to me the clip you play with your kid is more Sharpe or at list as sharp as the bubbles clip

its very hard to shoot at 50mm lens wide open and keep it in focus

other thing is try to shoot at shutter speed 1/50 and not 1/25

at 1/25 when there is motion it look soft

Thanks for the great advice. I will contact Quyen regarding the GG and see if it can't be fixed with correct balance.

Yow, thanks for asking.

I asked Quyen what he would charge to do a "tune up" on my Letus35FE and he said $100.00. This, added to what I paid for this used one, would put me over the price of a new one. I guess the lesson learned is that it's probably best to buy such sensitive equipment new from the manufacturer.

Hopefully Quyen can fix the streaking (and there is also a smudge on one of the internal mirrors that I can't get to) and make this like new.

Yow, I'd love to see your footage, but it's asking for a username and password. Can you post it somewhere else or provide that info?
