Smurfy, small mixer , very lightweight and what i think are premium components. Has 48 volt phantom, selectable gain for output . This unit looks to be serious stuff.$400

The mix pre, mix pre USB and the 302 mixer are top of the line but those products range from $700 to $1050

All of this stuff is a big step above the samson mixpad and other low cost mixers . The quality is in line with the Beachtek merchandise but goes a whole lot further. The beach is passive and can offer phantom. This stuff has mic pres, low cut filters, limiters, 48 volt phantom, selectable output gain, the whole 9 yards in a robust and portable package.

I own a Sound devices 302 but I'm thinking of buying a small single channel unit as well.

I was speaking to BeachTek this morning and their new adapter is apparently due to be released, possibly by the end of january. The new unit is approx the size of the D6-A and will have mic preamps as well as switchable phantom.

Everything said here applies to the Precision Audio Products pre:

The one thing I'd like to see in these small units is a "pan dial" so you can pan from one input to the other. I guess if you are actively mixing two mics then you would have to simultaneously drop mic one and bring up mic two?

Also I think Carlos mentioned that there is no headphone out purposely so that the user must use the cam as he says that's the best solution, BUT I'd like to be able to run my boom wireless, have this on my belt, run a transmitter off of it... and also hear what I'm sending to my camera. Sound crazy? Am I missing something or is there another way I should be monitoring?

I guess I could monitor the audio at the cam and split the signal BACK to the boom op? What do you think? Nutty?

Other then those two issues I think this appears to be a fantastic unit! I may get one. I absolutely LOVE the straightforward, professional appearance of the thing. It's beautiful in it's simplicity.

Also I think he should retake these pictures on a cloth surface with the "support" under the cloth... some people may think there's some sort of knob or tripod mount or something on the bottom... I'd be happy to pop this in a softbox and do it for him if I buy one...
