Sony DVDIRECT battery requirements

Wondering if anyone has messed with putting a battery on the DvDirect for in the field real time recording to dvd. I will probably record with a tape for backup but would like the flexibility to reduce DRAMATICALLY the time it takes me to get video from camera to computer. How much easier could it be to push record, make video... push eject, take dvd and put in computer for final editing.

I like the KISS approach.

Thanks,

Brian
