ExpressCard CardBus Adapter Help

Hello,

I'm going to be purchasing the new Panny HVX-170 when it comes out this fall. I also was going to purchase a used (but in excellent condition) laptop to use to dump the data from the P2 card into the laptop.

The laptop has the newer version PCI-E or PCI Express card slot on it. I found an adapter from Addonics (ADEXC34CB) that will accept the older P2 card and adapt it to fit the newer PCI Express slot.

My question is, has anyone had any experience using this setup? Will it work OK or are there any known issues? Any other help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

I think you're talking about the ExpressCard/34 port on the newer Macs correct? To my knowledge that's not called PCI-E. If you are indeed talking about the ExpressCard/34 port on the newer Macs, then you need the Duel-Adapter. Just google that and you'll find it right away. Or, try an inexpensive PC laptop with the PCMCIA slot in it. Lenovo makes good ones for around $500. You can transfer about three times faster than you could with a Duel Adapter or by using the camera's firewire/usb ports. And, if it's got gigabit ethernet, you can hook it up to your mac and see the P2 card as an external drive!

The Addonics adapter you mentioned does not work on a Mac and if you read the fine print you'll see that it doesn't support the newer P2 cards.
