Audio on Automatic?

I have a question about my Canon XH-A1 audio.
I also do photography so at times want to try auto for the audio, There have been times that the camera with the on camera mic was better than the Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Mic, and Lav Mic. Although its not common, but at times when the organist gets really loud, and happens so quick I dong adjust for it, or catches me off guard.

Would auto respond quicker and set each level Ch 1, Shotgun, Ch 2 Lav to each ideal volume.

I realize I may have to do some adjusting in post, but wouldnt auto keep the audio in a safe range.

I have never tried autiomatic on the cam running shotgun, and lav, so just asking.
