Creating LFE

1) Imported 5.1 audio from SR12 and Vegas 8 automatically created 4 Tracks: FL/FR, C, LFE, and RL/RR. However, there's no audio in the LFE track.

Sony, however, never actually claims the camcorder records LFE. Can anyone confirm this?

2) When I place a stereo music in a surround Track -- I control FL/FR, C, and RL/RR. But, I would like to generate an LFE signal. Essentially, I want to COPY the low-frequencies from the stereo channels and feed it into the LFE channel in the Mixer. Can this be done?

3) If I can't be done, then where does the signal for the LFE -- in the Vegas 8 Mixer -- come from?

Hi Steve. I don't know about the SR12, but it doesn't seems surprising that there is no LFE content in the audio. This channel is usually used more for effects.

Anyway, if you want to send the low frequency content of a track to the LFE channel, duplicate the track and use EQ to roll off the HF content on the duplicate (actually you might not need to EQ the track because the LFE channel only passes the LF content). Then right-click on the surround panner and select LFE Only as the destination.
