The still images are coded using a different method than the video images, one being jpeg for stills, the other being AVC/h.264 for video.

Each has its own color palette and different ability to preserve color accurately.

The still camera records a much wider range of color values than the video capture. Even though the same sensor, same lens, and same scene are being used, the still recording has more color detail.

This is the way consumer camcorders are designed.
