Zoom through typically should be a multi element lens, and in theory should be better quality, bigger and heavier...

Non zoom through are typically fewer elements, smaller, and lighter. You'll get MAYBE a 50% zoom before everything tumbles out of focus...

If you're shooting HD, be sure to get decent glass (not the typical import stuff), or your image will suffer. A good WA is a nice addition, a cheap one is just a heartache of image degradation...
