No Clip effect in CS3

I just purchased Adobe Premiere CS3. I have imported a Picture "BMP" that has no White border around the edge like a photo might have. In PPRO 1.5 there was an effect called "clip" which I could apply and I could creat the effect of a border and I could fill the border with any color I wanted. In this case it would be white. CS3 doesn't have this effect. I did a search here in the forum but no luck. There must be a way to creat this effect in CS3. Is there another way I can creat this cropping effect? CS3 has a Clip effect but you can "Fill" in areas with colors. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Harry

Can you create an image in Photoshop or any app that creates a TIFF. Create a square with a "hole" in the middle, import in Premiere and you have your border by virtue of the alpha channel.

Modify it in Photoshop, or use the CROP effect in Premiere Pro CS3. (I believe that will do what you are looking for) You may need a white matte in the background.

I will probably have to do it in Photoshop or back into PPro 1.5. Cs3'3 Crop does'nt have a fill option as Clip in PPro 1.5 does. Also I tried having the white matte but that doesn't work. Oh well thanks for all your replies.

I also missed clip and some other effects that for some reason got lost in CS3. My way was to duplicate the cropped layer's effects to a white matte.

Really, this is a shame, especially if you had projects from CS2 that were using these effects.

Come to think about it, maybe it would be possible to copy the old effects into the new plug-in directory. I need to check.

Hi Bart
Thanks for your reply. I tried to look for the clip effect in the folders in premiere but coudn't find it. Let me know if you find it and if you had luck in coping it to the CS3 folder plugins.

Here is a solution that Steven Gotz posted in another forum. I tried it and it works. FYI
Thanks to all who replied.

Harry, I found a solution that I think is better and simpler than the filter mentioned before: used the Titler.

- Create a new title, call it "Frame"
- Select the Rectangle tool
- Draw a rectangle the size of the frame
- In the Properties pane select:
* Uncheck the "Fill"
* Check the Inner strokes
* Select "Type: Edge"
* Adjust the size to your liking, 20 for a 720p frame is a good starting point
* Select white color

The beauty of this tool is that you can use something different for the frame. For example you can use a 2 or 4 point gradient plus add shadow and sheen .
Save the title and you can simply drop it multiple times in the timeline, on top of any clip. You can also switch the exact setting to a rounded edge rectangle. The Titler is one hell of a tool!
