CS4 any good?

Hi folks,

There seems to be a lot of chatter here about Premiere Pro CS4. Some people have talked a little about it, and some have come here to solve issues they may have with it. But I haven't seen a review of it. Is it working well for users here? Are there any features that make it worth upgrading?

Thanks.

You'll get your best results by searching these boards for CS4. There have been a number of comments of value.

Whether CS4 is worth it to you depends completely upon your current needs and issues.

I loaded CS4 Master Collection this weekend onto a Vista 64 partition. Have just begun to explore and play around with it. WAY too early to make any grand proclamations.

But so far, as a hobbyist user of every version of Photoshop and Premiere for at least 10 years, I'm really impressed with the latest version. So far, the apps are very snappy and I haven't run into any crashes or bugs. In the early going, useability and cross-app integration seems even much better than CS3.

There's always a down side, though. Unless I'm missing something on the install discs, Adobe have included only minimal content in Soundbooth. HELP is apparently now either all web based or by downloadable PDF (no printed user manuals came with it, and HELP is not built into the installed application, except as a link to the Adobe web site) and you must tediously download sound effects and scores -- or manuallly copy them over from CS3 folders -- and much of that content is NOT YET AVAILABLE ONLINE. And it appears that at least some scores included with CS3 now have a little "buy" icon next to them at the Adobe site. Boo!

Once I have more experience with CS4, I'll either post to this thread:

or submit an article to DVinfo.

I got the CS4 production edition for my birthday and I'm using it for the first time with the latest DV Challenge. So far it's been absolutely wonderful. It's my first time working with HDV footage and I'll admit I had some problems in the beginning but it was all user error.

On Location worked better than I had hoped. Premiere is dream come true now that I found the razor tool (the whole tools panel actually) tucked away in the corner. AE has always been a favorite. Soundbooth made ADR very easy.

I have to say I'm very happy with this suite of programs.

Hi Devin:

I made a new post on my experiences with CS4 Production Premium Suite. It's pretty lengthy, so check it out when you have some time to read a looong review.
