Long delay getting back into Premiere CS3 after going to other program?
 

WHen I am in Premiere and I minimize it or move the cursor to my other monitor to search files, browse the web, do some photoshop work.....whatever, when I click back inside Premiere I have to wait 10-15 seconds for it to become responsive. I just get the hourglass and have to wait. This doesn't happen on every project but seems to be related to HDV projects that have a large amount of assets in it. By large amount I mean 1-2 hours of footage imported as 50-60 clips.

And to be clear....all audio conforming and mpg indexing has been done for weeks, so I doubt that is the culprit here. Any ideas?

I get that on larger HDV projects, but not DV projects. I assumed it was down to my decidedly elderly PC (Athlon 4000+ 2.41GHz with 2GB RAM) rather than anything bad about Premiere CS3. I could be wrong though.

I would be interested to hear if there's anything we can do about this. I never got to the stage of getting any of the Cineform stuff to work on my cranky PC, maybe an intermediate codec like this would help.

This is normal for HDV projects with lots of assets. I don't know exactly what it's doing but when you switch focus back to PP it touches each of the assets before you can do anything.

It's kinda key to note that this phenomenon takes longer the more assets you have and is not, apparently, dependent upon the length (running time) of your clips. If you don't mind hacking up your clips in the timeline you can mitigate this issue (and shortening the initial project loading time too) by capturing each tape as a single clip. However, if this is contrary to your normal workflow it might cost you more time and aggravation than it's worth.
