PP CS5: Strange Artifacts with NXCAM AVCHD Footage

1 Attachment(s)
Greetings all. I'm new to Premiere CS5 and have lately been experimenting with some AVCHD clips from my Sony NX5U. I'm seeing some strange artifacts appearing around red colored objects in the footage, artifacts I can clearly see are not there when I view the clips with Movist, on a monitor connected to the camera, or when transcoded to ProRes in Final Cut Pro. It almost looks like interlacing effects but the footage is 720p. The lines are there when I view in the Media Browser even before importing, or in the timeline, and they are there if I export to ProRes from Premiere. Playback settings are on full and is very smooth. Other footage looks fine. I'm getting the same results on two different machines: Mac Pro 8-core 2.8Ghz, and MBP duo 2.57Ghz.

The footage where I'm seeing it was not shot under ideal conditions: a dance recital in a theatre that was not lit for video, but the red is not overexposed and looks fine in Final Cut.

Any ideas what this could be?
