Codec Missing or Unavailable for .avi file
 

Hey guys.

When I go to import a .avi file into Premiere Pro CS4 on an iMac. I seem to get the message
"Codec Missing or Unavailable". Does anyone know how I can get this footage to work?

The footage doesnt work in Final Cut Pro either so I assume something is up.

Without knowing the source of the AVI it's hard to tell. Where did it come from?

The footage came from a "VBOX"
Pretty much a box that has onboard cameras connected to it. They use them for racing cars to see onboard but also lap times, G forces etc.

I have been given the footage on a USB to edit a promo clip for it. The clips work fine in VLC.
but I cant get them to work in the editing suites :(

Did some research on the Vbox. Looks like the codec is the Xvid codec. The manual for the Vbox states that you need the Xvid codec pack, which is found on the installation disc for the Vbox. Alternatively, I would try going straight to the source for the Xvid codec here:

However, I see that from their site there is no codec compatible for Mac? Not sure what to do there. Other sites such as the one down below have a Quicktime player codec, but I don't know how trustable the site is. I personally have never dealt with that particular codec.

So the jist im getting it I wont be able to edit on a Mac? Unless I download that codec from that unknown website? lol
