Why CS5?

I took a look at the Adobe comparison chart between Premiere Pro CS4 & Premiere Pro CS5. I didn't see much that I'm missing at all.
I am using a 17" MBP for editing.

The only frustration I have with Premiere is the Media Browser does not display the clip names I assign to my XDCAM EX clips. Wouldn't mind having On Location work on my XDCAM EX but I can live without that.

So should I consider CS5 at all?

If you are not interested in about a three fold performance increase without hardware MPE and much more with hardware MPE, the extra support for various formats, the inclusion of Ultra, many other enhancements and most importantly, the move to 64 bit, then the answer is don't bother.

But who would pass such an offer?

But will my MBP be able to handle the load?

I have OS X, 2.66 core 2 Duo & 4 gb ddr3 RAM.

Not interested in buying a new computer.

That does seem a little light weight for CS5...however, i would have said the same about running CS4 had you asked me two years ago...

I would say in your position that you may want to look at a couple items...first, the native format support in CS5 is more extensive, second...it does seem that CS5 is more stable than CS4. Many users found CS4 to less stable than CS3, some found the opposite...i guess you have to go with your own track record there.

Media Encoder seems considerably zippier...

Mercury Playback Engine, even without an augmenting GPU, does seem to enhance responsiveness...and you can drop resolution on decode for formats like AVCHD and DSLR (or XDcamEX) to increase edit response on lighter systems...

It might be worth a peek...

It was worth it for me

I had a new system build for CS5 and it worth every Penny I spent. Very stable system comparing to the headache and many heck-ups with CS4. Are you having issue with your system now? all what I can see that there is no look back for me. This is the way way editing should been 10 years ago. I would have had some hair left. I am maybe not the right person to advice you but just wanted to share my experience with CS5. Thanks

My biggest issue with premiere cs 4 is the lack of displaying clip names in the media browser with my XDCAM EX clips. If that has been fixed, it may be worth upgrading. The media browser is quite limited for me with EX clips.

I do not intend on upgrading the computer. not in the budget
