Exporting in HD in Premiere CS4

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what settings on Premiere CS4 people use to export HD video? Previously I used tapes, so while editing was important I always figured I could go back and re-record it. But I've switched to digital media now, so once I wipe the footage off the card then that's it.

I'm currently exporting using the H.264 codec at full res (1920x1080), but is there a better setting to use? Or - is there a better codec to use? I used to use Cineform for HDV - though for some reason that crashes now when I use it with my new video.

Or is there a thread already discussing this? I had a look but couldn't find any...

Thanks!

Anthony

I can't quite tell from your post what exactly you are asking about.
Are you talking about "exporting" from the cam to PPro (importing), or exporting from the PPro timeline that has your edited footage on it.

Hi Robert - As in, exporting files for archiving of HD video once they're all edited. I edit in HD then often downsample to standard definition, but I want to keep an edited HD version too and was wondering if the H.264 codec is the best one to use, or if there is a better setting/option to use in Premiere - or if there's a better codec to purchase.

Outputting to Blu-ray isn't an option for me at the moment as I don't have a blu-ray burner, however would like to keep the edited HD files.

For archival purposes I typically make a Cineform HD master movie.
The Cineform file can be easily used at a later date to produce any delivery format you might need.
