i will put the same question here as in photo

My wife is making a resume video of her different dance experience. the files from the Sony hdr-cx550v are giving me problems.
1. The sound is there in the source.
2. when she uses the normal overlay or insert, just the video comes down.

3. When i was looking to try to I saw I can manually bring just the video.

Questions: I. is the sound there just hidden ?

II. She would rather not have to go back and match the sound or find all the clips again.

III. is there a setting I missing that we are not bring it down with video ?

Thank you for help. --Michael

It looks like you recorded 5.1 audio in the cam but you don't have a 5.1 audio track on the timeline, so Premiere is adding one below your other tracks. You just can't see it. Scroll down in the audio portion of your timeline.

Also, when you drag the picture of the video down, both audio and video should go. If you drag just the speaker icon (as you indicate in your grab) just the audio goes. If you drag just the filmstrip icon, just the video goes.

Also also, for some reason you seem to have audio track one locked, so nothing will go there no matter what.

Overlay and insert are probably your problems... just drag the picture down from the source monitor. Unless I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do. For dance, I would lay a clean audio track of the music down first and then just lay the video over it, but that's just me.

Just duplicated your setup in CS4; you need to have the audio channel highlighted as shown in the jpeg attached and then it will work. As Adam points out, one of your channels is locked for some reason, although PPro will select the next available channel to match your audio. But to use the insert/overlay tools, you have to have a channel set as default and set to active, as the jpeg shows. (Just click in the first two panels of the audio track to accomplish this. One of your audio tracks should be identified as A1, this is your default channel. Be sure it is selected--light grey-- and the panel next to it is also selected and unlocked.)
