Exporting issues in Premier Pro

Hey guys, I'm the worlds worst at exporting projects. I always feel there are way to many options when all I want is for my project to export with 100% quality. I exported my reel last night, it's a mix bag of 1080 30p / 24p and 720 24p footage. I exported it at H.264 720 24p but when I play it back you can see almost like a mirror image or ghost like image, especially on the 1080 clips, pressing pause on some clips really brings this out. Should I export to 720 30 or just try to redo it in 720 24p? I've found sometimes if I just re-export the file, it works fine. It's just strange, I still don't really like premier's exporting options.

Thanks

Re: Exporting issues in Premier Pro

Greg,

This is the result of using 1080p30 in 720p24 timeline and having frame blending turned on, either in export settings or in the clips themselves. Unfortunately, Premiere is lousy at interpolating footage to other speeds, and frame blending (essentially mixing two frames with varying opacity) is the only algorithm that it has apart from simply dropping or duplicating frames.

There are a few workarounds:
1. Use After Effects with Pixel Motion turned on to retime 1080p30 footage to 24p or other plugins like Twixtor.
2. Turn off frame blending and see if the result is acceptable for you - it might vary, but sometimes can help.
3. Interpret 1080p30 footage as 1080p24. It will play back slower, but since your clip already has a lot of footage that is slowed down or sped up, then it might actually be to your advantage.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bart, I'll try that when I get home.
