Clipwrap .mov files and Premiere Pro CS 6......
 

If you use Clipwrap and you use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, this post is for you.
I use Clipwrap to 'rewrap' my .MTS files from my Sony FS100. Now I can
view them in Quicktime, but suddenly they are sluggish in Premiere Pro.
What gives? If you've asked these questions, maybe you too should try my
solution. Rename your .mov files to .mpg. For more info and a FREE Automator
script that will 'batch process' your folders full or archived .mov files from .mov to .mpg,
you can zip over to my blog.

If you wrap the files in QuickTime, you're going to create more problems than working with the original .MTS files. Why didn't you do that?

Maybe I didn't explain very well. I shoot a good amount of video. So, I also need to archive it.
I have a short term archive on USB hard drives and a long term one on blu ray discs.
Sometimes I need to just scan through my archives quickly. Can't do that with .mts
files on a Mac, you have to open cs6 just to do a simple view of video that you can normally
do in the finder. By using Clipwrap to 'rewrap' the .mts files to .mov, I can archive those .mov
files and view them easily in quicktime but then they bog down cs6. If I change the extension to.mpg
I get the best of both worlds...easily viewable archive video (inside quicktime or even just finder)
and video that is nice and fast in cs6 and doesn't bog down like .movs do.

.MTS may be fine for PC editors. On a Mac I have FCP 7 and FCPX and CS6 installed and
use different ones for different jobs as they all have different strengths and weaknesses.
.MTS files are no good for quick viewing on a Mac. But my solution seems to work really
well on my system.....just as fast as .MTS
