Req: Graphics card suggestion for Prem Pro CS6 on i7 setup
 

Hi All,

Looking to build an i7 system after the holidays to run Prem Pro CS6 and Photoshop CS6. Got most of the components figured out, but the graphics card market seems somewhat murky and confusing these days.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good value graphics card? My budget would be somewhere between £100 and £150 pounds.

I don't play games on my PC, it's just for editing videos and photographs.

Hi Paul,

A GTX 760 or 770 will do nicely, 780 is probably overkill and costs a lot more

As implied by Harm and the PPBM7 Tweakers page, it also depends on which i7 CPU that you're going to get. The LGA 1150 Haswell i7s have only four cores and eight threads; for a system with such a CPU, it is a waste of money getting anything above a GTX 760 (the price of a GTX 760 is now close enough to that of the older GTX 660 Ti for me to recommend the GTX 760 in such a mainstream build). However, if you are going with an Ivy Bridge-E (LGA 2011) i7, especially a hexa-core/12-thread model, you may want to go for a GTX 770 or GTX 780 (with or without the "Ti" designation).

I'm currently looking at the the following cpu:

Intel Core i7 3770,1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, 5 GT/s DMI, 650MHz GPU, 8MB Smart Cache, 34x Ratio, 77W

Cheapest 760 I can see in the UK is around £220, about £50 more than I wanted to pay.

Paul,

In this case, then get a GTX 650 Ti or even a GTX 650 non-Ti. Especially since the i7-3770 is now "obsolete" (being one CPU generation old) and can only be "overclocked" in a limited fashion.

Cool thanks for the advice. I can pick up the gtx 650 ti for around £125, which is more comfortably within my budget.
