Colour Grading for Dummies :)

Hi everyone

I work on Adobe creative suite mainly doing weddings on premiere and after effects. I don't do much in the wayof colour grading - just a few colour corrections here or there. I am wondering where to start and if anyone could point me in the direction of some great tutorials or programs I wouldbe grateful!!

Thanks
Diana

The answer to most of your color correction / grading questions, especially the ones you don't know enough yet to even ask, is here: Color Correction Handbook.

That's the best technical book on any topic I've ever found, and as an engineer I've got a *lot* of technical books in my office. Get a copy and read it. All will be made clear.

Re: Colour Grading for Dummies :)

I bought the Steve Hullfish book "The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction" on Amazon and then picked up a DSC Labs one shot dailies reference chart from B&H.

The One Shot is the magic ticket in my opinion to getting multiple cameras from different vendors to look the same.

I've got my NX5, D750, HV40, GoPro 2, and Vixia Mini to look pretty close with it.

I'm slowly putting together my workflow right now in a Blog Post, and hope to have it done in a few weeks.

It might sound corny and will be nowhere near as technical as the books, but search YouTube. There are tons of tutorials to get started with and they are specific to premiere. And on top of that, they are free. Its a good place to get started.

You have speedgrade as part of your software suite. It is a great program with plenty of online video tutorials. You will have to deal with the learning curve. I started using it last year and am very glad to have it.

Diana,

If you look at Kyle Root's website you will understand why he recommends a $300.00 piece of cardboard. He gets it right. The work is beautiful.

Kyle, I would like to read your blog. Please let us know when it is up!

Steve
