Premiere crashes
When I try to capture in PPro 2, the program crashes. In the task manager I see that when I open the capture window, premiere goes to or near 100% then it goes down to 0. Then, explorer.exe goes to 100%. I’m not sure why?
Any help is greatly appreciated |
Not enough details to answer. What source are you capturing from, and what are the specs of your computer?
|
HDV downconvert to DV on a P4 2.0 ghz 512 ram. These specs are not enough to deal with HDV but it should be enough for DV. I just want to make sure it's the specs of the CPU and not something else.
Thanks |
You have to down convert in camera, so you will be capturing a DV stream. Also your memory is very low and possibly your disk configuration is also sub optimal. Details please.

Try capturing your HDV footage with HDV Split (free utility) then import that into PPRO 2.0. I have a similar laptop, Sony Vaio P4 @ 2.4 GHz processor with only 512 RAM and it works without crashes - don't ask me about the speed though... I'm just experimenting wiht high def at this point.
Your PPRO probably crashes because it runs out of RAM - can't keep up with the work load, so "it throws arms up". With HDV Split you are only using a small part of your computing capabilities, being a small application... PPRO by itself eats up almost all of that RAM even idling... You definitely need more RAM... a lot more RAM... |
Okay, now the same thing is happening when I try to capture from my DV camera. I know my specs are low but I have never had a problem capturing DV footage with my PC.
Could it be a virus or should I do a fresh install of premiere? |
I repeat, details please on your setup and configuration.

Harm Millaard see post #3 (running Win XP home ed.)
I think I figured out the problem, when my computer recognizes the camera, Premiere doesn’t respond, when I turn the camera off, premiere responds. This is really strange. Anyone know how to fix this? |
Doesn't PPro 2.0 require Windows XP Proffessional?
|
No it works on Home ed.The problem turned out to be my firewire cable.
