Need Immediate Help with Exporting Movie

I tried exporting my movie in premiere to start burning copies for my showing this saturday, but the file ended up being 14.4 GB. The movie is 1 hr and 9 minutes long, does that size seem right? Will I have to put it into 4 DVDs? Is there a way to lower the size without lowering the quality too much? Thanks.

If I convert with a codec to a home theatre mode, should everything fit on 4.7 GB DVD?

Drew,

You're exporting DV, which is 13GB per hour. DVDs use the much more compressed MPEG 2 format.

You need to compress your 14.4 GB DV master using a program like Compressor for Mac, although there are many others out there. You can also do it with an authoring program like Adobe Encore DVD or DVD Studio Pro. Even iDVD will do it.

A crude alternative: set-top DVD player/recorders use predetermined compression settings to fit different amounts of video onto DVD-Rs. So if you try this method, use the Firewire input if it has one and set your recording quality to 90 minutes.

Dude, are you using Premiere Pro 2.0? If so just go to 'File - Export - Adobe Media Encoder'. From there you can simply select from one of the DVD presets. This keeps things pretty simple for you. You can burn straight to disc after encoding or output a MPEG2 file that you could use in an authoring program as mentioned previously. ;)
