Sound Device 702 vs. Tascam HD-P2
 
One of the features of the Sound Devices 702 is that it can record to CF or DIRECTLY to hard disk via firewire. Does anyone know if the Tascam HD-P2 offers the same feature? I have been testing my Tascam and can only dock it via firewire and then transfer the files after they have been recorded. Any realtime audio on the FW of the Tascam?

I am also interested in the work flow on professional film and television productions when using the Sound Devices recorders. Do you record to two sources when possible for a back-up? Do you transfer the cards to harddisk at the end of the day or at the end of a scene?

Any info would be appreciated.

Other than recording to the camcorder whenever possible, no.

Yes, at end of day.

A good sound op will be doing frequent checks of recordings during the day as well. A good director or line producer will give a few minutes here and there for camera and sound playback checks.
