Korg MR-1000 as field recorder/mixer?

Would it be possible or reasonable to use Korg MR-1000 as two channel field mixer and/or recorder by boom op? As it has line level balanced output too it can possibly be used even as a mic pre?
I actually just want to record really quiet abient soundscapes and such so extremely low noise and high gain is essential to me. Any sugestions?

Thanks in advance,
T

Add me to the curious list. Choose an MR-1000 or go with an MR-1 /w Sound Devices field mixer?
