wireless lavalier

I have a sony pd150 and just got a shure UT4 receiver with a shure WL185 wireless lavalier. Is this a good choice for a wireless for a documantary? Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Those are nice componants, and will serve you well. As far as using the wireless lav, it would be fine for voice overs, or even placed on the interviewee. Adding a wired handheld and a small mixer would make this a perfect match for most scenarios.

But a bit of advice- Do NOT wear the mic and interview someone. I was involved with a video website that would do this. They would place a mic flag on a screwdriver, while the girl interviewing wore the lav. When it was time for the interviewee to answer, she would turn and point her chest at them. It was tooo funny editing some of their stuff...

Thanks for the good unput. I'll mess around with it a bit and see how it works. I do have a couple mixers around, guess I should figure out how to use them properly. I am very new at all this so your help is really appreciated.

Well another solution to the 'screwdriver' is to use a hollow tube the size of the lav. Put a slot into the side to allow passage of the lav's wire and go.

Still its better to go with a real hand mic.
