Shoe Mounts
 

i have a Lightwave mini mount with the universal shoe carriage that attaches to the shoe mount on top of my VX2k. I was wondering if anyone knows where i can purchase just a shoe mount so i can modify a painters pole to accept the mini mount for a make shift boom pole? I've searched several sites but cannot find just a shoe mount (the receiving end).

A good camera store may be able to help you out. You probably won't find just the mount but a mount on a bar to use to mount to the bottom of a camera (used to get the flash away from the camera). Then you could just cut the mount part off. You might even find something cheap in a used bin at a camera store.

thanks for the reply Jeff. After more searching I think i have found what i need. You can get a shoe mount that has a thread mount underneath for mounting a flash on a tripod or light pole.

Browsing through the Markertek catalog I found the same thing, plus a nice bracket that attaches to the tripod hole that would do a nice job of getting a microphone away from the camera. Both were in the lighting section (of course).

Look at the mini rover, it's an excellent grip and will mount a shotgun and a radio receiver. it's worth every penny.

Look at the Screwit, Screwit2 and shoeit all under accesories on the videosmith site. They all work as mic mounts.

I was looking for the stand alone shoe mount(the "female end") so i could attach it to a painters pole.This would allow me to use my Lightwave minimount(connects to shoe) on a boom as well as mounting it to my VX2k.I know Lightwave sells a boom minimount and i tried to contact them to see if i could just buy the boom attachement seeing that i already bought the minimount but they have not yet responded. Thanks for the help!

They have a price list on their website and if I remember correctly it's about $65 for the piece of plastic that connects between the mount and pole.
One advantage of this additional piece is that you can also adjust the angle between the pole and shock mount.

since January, Lightwave has switched to a new design for their mini-mount but I haven't seen any comment/review and this new revision.
To me it looks like a cost reduction of the first on but they may also have taken the opportunity to improve the shock absorption system.

Bottom line is I don't know if the boom pole adapter works for the both generations.

The nice thing about the mounts in Markertek is that they are relatively cheap $10-$20 and serve only as a way of attaching what many of us already have (shockmounts) in different ways. So if you have a shoe-mounted shockmount you can use one of these lighting attachments to move it away from the camera or make it mountable on a boom pole.

I've been wondering the same thing myself...I have a Beyerdynamic EA-86 that rests in your camera shoe and want to put it on the end of a paint pole to make a boom "on the cheap." I've been to that volksmovie place before and am considering trying to replicate that. I noticed markertek was mentioned as a place to get a solution that would mount a shock mount to a paint pole, but I couldn't find anything compatible. Any suggestions?

I got my shoe from B&H $5 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bh2.sph/...ID=F6E1D97FCF0 I then bought a $11 aluminum painters pole at Lowes and pulled the plastic end thread plug out. Cut it down so there was only one level thread exposed and drilled up thru the bottom the 1/2" diameter of the post thats on the bottom of the shoe and it fit snugly in the poles plastic thread plug.then from underneath i put a 1/4" bolt that threaded into the shoes threads with a few washers to secure the shoe to the plug and popped it back into the end of the pole. If you look at the picture of the shoe it will probably make more sense.

I am currently building the Volksmovie shock mount using supplys purchased at Home Depot and Orchard Supply. I am connecting it to a mic stand which I have had for several years. The mic stand can be used as a boom pole or a mic stand if no one is available to operate the boom pole.

Great! I've been trying to figure out from that single picture how to fashion the thing, it doesn't look too complicated except for where the lamp clamp connects to the boom. I'm very interested to hear your results. Upon completion I'd love to see some pictures. Thanks a lot for your help Scott!
