What wind protection for Schoeps?
I have a schoeps cmc641 and I'm heading out of the country with it next month and I'll be in some windy areas. I will be doing a doc and I will have lavs but I'm sure some of my interviews will be outside in the wind. I see some people on here get away with a Rode Dead Cat. I doubt I'll be using the schoeps in more than ten miles an hour of wind. Will the dead cat hold up in that, or should I get something else. If so, what?

We use the Rycote Baby Ball Gag with Windjammer Windshield.

Ed, check out this link. Ty Ford describes successfully using a Rode Dead Cat over the B5D Schoeps foam pop filter.
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=113748 Haven't tried it myself, but I intend to. Rycote furry has been all but useless on the Schoeps for me. |
Worked on a show late last year where we used the DPA Windpac with the Scheops. Seems people either love this contraption or hate it. Seemed to work for us, but it is very pricey (when hasn't a DPA product not been pricey though).

Used the Baby Ball Gag with the schoeps yesterday. 25mph wind gusts were picked up through the xlr mic cable from the boom pole to the mic. I would get a full blimp system.
