Boom pole safety plug thingy?
 

Hey, I have an internally cabled k-tek avalon boom with a rear exit. Does anyone make a shield or guard or something to attach to the bottom of the boom to protect the xlr connector in case the boom op forgets and tries to set the boom down on its end?

Also, is the avalon series just glued together? Doesnt seem like there is any way to get into it in the event the cabling goes bad.

any thoughts appreciated.

I don't know of any protectors, but you could make or buy an XLR cable that uses angled connectors like this:

This particular connector is just one of many that could be purchased, but that's probably your best bet since you didn't have the side connector put on the pole.

I'm not familiar with the Avalon series, so I don't know how they are constructed.

K-Tek makes a number of poles with a side exit and a rubber base so you can put it down, although I don't think that the Avalon series has this feature. Remote Audio makes a boom cable with a right angle connection to the pole. I'm pretty sure I've also seen an adapter that will plug into the bottem of the pole as well and give you a right angle connection. It's a big problem. I've had two cables get ruined this way.
